Enloe Medical Center Earns ‘A’ Grade for Hospital Safety
CHICO, Calif., May 3, 2023 –Enloe Medical Center received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog organization upholding the standard of patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. Enloe has earned this recognition 14 of the previous 15 grading periods. The new grade reflects performance primarily during the height of the pandemic. This national distinction celebrates Enloe’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.
“Our caregivers work immensely hard to keep our patients safe, at all times, including during the pandemic,” said Marcia Nelson, M.D., Enloe’s chief medical officer. “I couldn’t be prouder of my colleagues and their dedication to providing the highest quality of care. It is thanks to them that Enloe once again achieved this honor.”
The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“Patient safety is at the heart of everything we do here at Enloe Medical Center,” said Mike Wiltermood, Enloe’s President and CEO. “Earning an ‘A’ grade from Leapfrog speaks to the dedication our caregivers display every day. It’s an honor to receive this acknowledgment for our organization, and to see this dedication rewarded.”
