Please dispose of sharps and unneeded medications safely. Do not put them in the trash. This includes home-generated sharps waste, which consist of devices used to penetrate the skin in order to administer medications.

Safe disposal is easy and free. By disposing of unwanted or expired medications at a local drop-off location, you will help protect your family, community and environment.

Medication Drop-Off

Butte Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility

Hours: Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Please remove pills from their original containers and place them in a clear Ziploc bag.

Walgreens Pharmacy

1042 Nord Ave., Chico

Hours: Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Enloe Health Pharmacy

1531 Esplanade, Chico

Enter on Magnolia Avenue at W. Fifth Avenue.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; weekends, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed for lunch from 1-1:30 p.m.)

Unwanted and expired medications in any dosage form are accepted, in their original container or a sealed bag. See hours and a list of exceptions.

Sharps are needles, lancets, catheters, scalpels, dental tools, and any other device that pierces the skin of people and animals. They are banned from municipal solid waste streams because of the risk they pose to solid waste collection workers and the public.
