Physician joins Enloe Medical Center’s Board of Trustees in 2008

CHICO, Calif., Monday, March 10, 2008 –  Enloe Medical Center announces recent physician membership changes on its Board of Trustees.

Enloe Medical Staff member Monroe Sprague, MD, an ear, nose and throat specialist, began service as a physician trustee member on Jan. 1. He replaces William Doherty, MD, who completed his two years of service as a physician trustee member at the end of December. Dr. Doherty, an orthopedic surgeon, continues to be an active member of Enloe’s medical staff.

“We are grateful to Dr. Doherty for his dedication during the years he served on the board,” said Darby Makel, PhD, Chair of Enloe’s Board of Trustees. “We now look forward to all that Dr. Sprague will contribute to the board in its leadership for the medical center.”

Dr. Sprague specializes in otolaryngology (relating to the ear nose and throat), including head and neck surgery. “As a physician member, I will work to facilitate cooperation between the medical center and physicians to provide a high quality of care that is characteristic of Chico’s hometown and friendly style,” said Dr. Sprague. “I hope to lend some insight to issues considered by the board, regarding hospital medical needs and challenges.”

Dr. Sprague has been on the medical staff of Enloe for 25 years. He has served on multiple committees of the two community hospitals and was the Chief of Staff of Chico Community Hospital for two years. Dr. Sprague received his Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin after a U.S. Navy tour. He received his medical degree at the University of Southern California Medical School and received his specialty training in otolaryngology with the Northern California Kaiser Permanente System in the Bay Area.

In his free time, Dr. Sprague enjoys time with his family, traveling, hiking, photography, skiing, rafting and kayaking. He has been involved locally with the Boy Scouts of America, assisting in many of the organization’s backpacking trips while his two sons were scouts. He continues to be involved with the Boy Scouts, such as the organization’s Christmas tree recycling project fundraiser.

The Enloe Medical Center Board of Trustees is composed of community members who volunteer their time and service to govern the medical center. The board, which currently consists of 17 members, is led by Chair Darby Makel, Ph.D., Vice Chair Judy Sitton, and Secretary Peter Magnusson, M.D., as well as Enloe’s Chief Executive Officer, Deborah A. Yancer.
