Enloe Medical Center opens children’s resource center

CHICO, Calif., Feb. 19, 2008  – Clean Start, Healthy Beginnings and a collaboration of local community agencies have developed the Enloe Children’s Health & Resource Center, a place for families to learn more about meeting the needs of their children.  The new resource center is located in the Enloe Children’s Health Center at 277 Cohasset Road in Chico, and is open Tuesday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Enloe Children’s Health & Resource Center, which opened this month, offers free classes and discussion groups for parents. It also provides Internet-accessible computers and staff to help parents locate online resources, and is stocked with books and other educational materials.  Initial classes include:

  • Parenting Topics and Positive Communication
  • Bike Helmet Safety and Fitting
  • Babies Love Books
  • Challenging Behaviors
  • Dental Health
  • Freedom From Smoking (smoking cessation for parents)
  • Internet Safety: How to Keep your Kids Safe
  • Safety for Infants

The classes promote children’s optimal growth and development. They are geared toward parents with children from newborn to age 5, however all parents are welcome, and information will be tailored to those who attend. Classes are taught in English, and discussion groups to begin in March will be offered in English, Spanish and Hmong. The center also has a designated area for small children to play while their parents attend classes. A class calendar is available online at www.enloe.org/classes.

Among the community groups collaborating with Enloe on the classes are: American Lung Association, Butte County Public Health Department, Butte County Public Library, Child Abuse Prevention Council of Butte County, OPT for Fit Kids and Parent Education Network.
