As part of Enloe Medical Center’s commitment to patients during their hospital stay, we include hospitalists on our medical staff to devote their time to your health care needs. By working with patients from admission through discharge, these doctors can better determine when tests should be run, promptly interpret test results and personally check on you more frequently. In this way, they will work to enhance your patient-centered experience.
What is a hospitalist?
A hospitalist is a physician who is exclusively dedicated to treating patients during their hospital stay. They may also diagnose conditions and perform medical procedures.
Hospitalists at Enloe Medical Center will manage your inpatient care and keep in close contact with you. The physicians of the Chico Hospitalist Group are board certified in either Family Practice or Internal Medicine. Primary physicians have the option to refer their patients to a hospitalist for the needed care of a hospital stay. At Enloe, we are glad to offer this service to help provide you with a quality experience.
During a patient’s stay
During your stay at Enloe Medical Center, one or more of the team of hospitalist physicians will direct your care. Hospitalists are part of a care team that knows every specialist and department in the hospital. Each member of the team is dedicated to assisting you throughout your visit. Even though a hospitalist is available 24 hours a day, it is best to speak to the hospitalist physician between the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Your hospitalist team meets regularly with nursing management and medical and support staffs to create a consistent treatment plan. Though you may not see the same physician every day of your hospital stay, members of the hospitalist team regularly communicate with each other about your care and treatment plan.
What will happen when I leave the hospital?
During discharge, the hospitalist caring for you will communicate with your primary physician to arrange for follow-up treatment and to prescribe any necessary medication. Enloe Medical Center will send your hospital records to your physician at the time of discharge.

Since 1995, the Chico Hospitalist Group has provided care to individuals admitted to Enloe Medical Center. Working as a team, the Chico Hospitalist Group’s dedicated physicians are available to care for you at the hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

How will I be billed?
You and your insurance company will be billed for both your hospital visit and the care provided by the physicians of the Chico Hospitalist Group. Enloe Medical Center and the Chico Hospitalist Group understand that medical needs can be unexpected and expensive and will work with you to set up payment arrangements to help relieve some of the financial burden when necessary.
