Community outreach and education are very important to us at Enloe Medical Center. Here we offer a listing of our upcoming community wellness events for the general public. We update this calendar of events throughout the year.

A.W.A.K.E Support Group

Topic: Understanding a Sleep Study - Why Do Sleep Centers Do What They Do?

7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. l Enloe Homecare, 1390 East Lassen Ave., in Chico

A.W.A.K.E (Alert Well and Keeping Energetic) is a local educational and social mutual help support group for people affected by sleep apnea. This month’s speaker, Michelle Fehling, RCP, RPSGT, of North State Sleep Lab, will discuss the topic “Understanding a Sleep Study – Why Do Sleep Centers Do What They Do?” This American Sleep Apnea Association group, sponsored and facilitated by Enloe Medical Center, is a good place to see new equipment and talk with others in our community regarding therapy and its various treatments. It meets on the third Thursday of every other month. For more information, call Robyn at 332-3117.

Cancer Discussion Group New group!

Topic: Men and women working together and getting the best out of each other

4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. | Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, in Chico

Enloe’s MACHO Support Group (for Men) and Women’s Cancer Support Group have been dissolved and will be replaced by a new monthly program, the Cancer Discussion Group, which launches Aug. 21. The group is open to patients and their caregivers at any stage of the cancer journey. Each meeting will include a guest speaker and discussion topics related to managing the challenges associated with cancer and improving overall wellness. The group will meet on the third Thursday of the month from The change is based out of research from the City of Hope as well as local feedback and trends.

Your Life...Back in Action
Joint pain Treatment options

6 p.m. to 8 p.m. l Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Chico

Learn about joint health, treatment options for joint pain, joint replacement surgical procedures, and quality initiatives at Enloe from local orthopedic surgeons. There will also be a Q&A session with the surgeons and a physical therapist. (Include your questions with your online registration.) Visit education exhibits and more!

Saturday, August 23

Exploration Station at the Gateway Science Museum

1 p.m. to 3 p.m. l Gateway Science Museum, 625 Esplanade (near  Bidwell Mansion), Chico

Join Enloe Education Coordinator, Cindy Weaver, RN, as she demonstrates "hands-only CPR" and an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). The activity is designed for age 8 to adult. For younger children, there will be an interactive activity on choking prevention. This activity is free with cost of museum admission and is appropriate for all ages. It compliments the current "Era of Innovation: Past and Present" exhibit which invites visitors to explore 101 years of medical care and innovation at Enloe Medical Center. The activity is subject to change. Gateway Science Museum is open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sun. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for children and students with ID.

Blood drive

11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. l Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Chico

Appointments are highly recommended and can be scheduled at BloodSource.org/Drives (enter code H004) or by contacting Margie Rackley at margie.rackley@enloe.org or (530) 332-6444. Bring a photo ID such as a driver’s license, drink plenty of fluids and eat a good meal within four hours before giving blood. Donors must be age 16 (with a signed parental consent form) to adult. Thank you for helping save lives!

Bariatric Buddies - Topic: Family Night

6 to 8 p.m. l Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Chico

This meeting will include a panel of family members of bariatric surgery patients. Bariatric Buddies provides information and support for those considering or who have had gastric bypass surgery. Friends, family and support persons are welcome. The group is facilitated by the Enloe Bariatric Program and meets on the last Wednesday of each month.

Healthy Hearts - Topic: TBD

This informative support group meeting facilitated by the Enloe Heart Program is open to heart disease patients, their families and the general public. This month’s meeting takes place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at a new location: the Sierra House Conference Room, 249 W. 6th Ave., Chico. For more information, call Ken at (530) 343-2000.

29th Annual Enloe Foundation Golf Tournament

Warm up your swing, dust off your clubs, and mark your calendar for the 29th annual Enloe Foundation Golf Tournament on at Butte Creek Country Club. ERA OF INNOVATION: Past and Present

Take a step back in time and explore 101 years of medical care and innovation at Enloe Medical Center at a special exhibit at the Gateway Science Museum. The buggy and medical bag of hospital founder Dr. Newton Thomas Enloe will be on display as part of a chronology of tools, equipment and photos that will guide you through the evolution of health care. The exhibit also highlights best practices in health care today with the medical center's latest quality initiative posters.
