Weight-loss Surgery Informational Seminars

10 a.m. to noon., Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade. Free weekly seminars led by bariatric surgeons Deron Ludwig, MD*, or Erik Simchuk, MD*, with an introduction by Enloe's bariatric nurses. Covers topics related to weight-loss surgery, the disease of morbid obesity, health issues associated with obesity and information about surgical options. An Introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Enloe Conference Center, 1528 Esplanade, Chico. Attend this free info session led by Steve Flowers, MS, MFT, director of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Clinic at Enloe and a licensed psychotherapist with a private practice. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) offers potential benefits for all types of participants, including those suffering from a wide range of chronic disorders and diseases. Studies have shown that the practice of MBSR reduced pain-related drug use and increased activity levels and positive feelings of self-esteem for a majority of participants. RSVP not required. VOLUNTEER PATIENT AMBASSADOR TRAINING

3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Enloe Conference Center. These compassionate volunteers visit patients in the hospital, help with simple wishes, provide diversion, and more. Training will prepare community members interested in this volunteer opportunity. 530.332-4575 or volunteers@enloe.org.

Senior Fitness Fair

9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the Chico Sports Club, 260 Cohasset Road Free Fitness Event Co-hosted by Enloe Medical Center and Chico Sports Club. Free lecture at noon: Exercise and Aging, presented by David Swanson, PhD Kinesiology Dept., CSU, Chico. Event includes Blood Pressure Screenings, balance information, know your BMI (Body Mass Index), grip strength, pulse ox measurement (oxygen level), dietary information, senior fitness assessment, free 5-minute chair massages. VIVA! 2010-2011 Sessions Begin

2nd Tuesdays of the month, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., through May, when six or more kids are committed to attending. Cancer Center Conference Room, 251 Cohasset Road, Chico. Free support program, provided by Enloe Cancer Connections, for children and teens, age 6 to 16, who are dealing with the cancer diagnosis of a loved one. Participants spend time with a licensed health care professional and an art assistant addressing challenges and exploring ways to feel better by doing fun activities and art projects. Low-cost walk-in flu clinic with free Tdap vaccine available

7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or as supplies last) at Enloe’s Cohasset Campus, 560 Cohasset Road, Chico. Please use north entrance (not main entrance) Each vaccine costs $20; cash and checks will be accepted. If you are Medicare eligible, please bring your Medicare ID card. MediCal cannot be accepted. Vaccine will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants are asked to wear clothing that allows vaccination on the upper arm. 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, 1888 Springfield Drive, Chico. Please use this driving route to enable an orderly and equitable process: Take Highway 32, turn south at Forest Avenue. Turn right at the second Springfield Drive. The first driveway into the clinic is the only entrance. Please remain in your car upon arrival. Vaccine will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. See a demo of the Enloe Rehabilitation Center’s computerized driving simulator, which can assess a person’s ability to drive safely. Naomi Judd: How to Have a Breakthrough, Not a Breakdown

Methods for expediting treatment of ST Elevation Myocardial Infarctions

• Lilly Oncology on Canvas Special Exhibit, Oct. 14-Oct. 27, a biennial art competition and exhibition that provides everyone affected by cancer -- those who have been diagnosed with cancer, their health care providers, family members, friends and caregivers -- the opportunity to express the life-affirming changes that give that journey meaning and to share their cancer journey through art.  Twenty five works from the 2008 collection will be exhibited at Enloe Cancer Center.
