Enloe Medical Center, Enloe Foundation announce 2013 board updates

CHICO, Calif., Jan. 16, 2013 – Enloe Medical Center’s Board of Trustees welcomes four new members and has named a new secretary in changes that became effective Jan. 1, 2013. In addition, the Enloe Foundation Board of Directors announced two new members this year.
Joining the Enloe Medical Center Board of Trustees are Cindy Bennington-Foor, Forrest Olson, MD, Mark Schwabe, MD, and Jack Sterling. New to the Enloe Foundation Board are Scott Chalmers and Michael Dailey.
Bennington-Foor is the Vice President and Regional Manager of Tri Counties Bank, managing 13 retail branches in eight cities. She has worked at Tri Counties Bank since 2000, and prior to that was Vice President at Bank of America, where she was employed since 1978. Bennington-Foor’s community involvement includes membership in the Chico Rotary Club, the Chico Rotary Foundation Board of Governors and the Chico Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Dr. Olson, a hospitalist at Enloe Medical Center since 2007, will serve as a physician trustee member. He was previously as an ex-officio member of the board due to his positions of chief of staff (2009-2011) and chief of staff elect (2007-2009). In other leadership roles, Dr. Olson was secretary treasurer of the Enloe Medical Staff (2005-2007). Dr. Olson is a champion of quality care at Enloe Medical Center, spearheading numerous patient quality and safety initiatives.
Sterling and his wife Darien own Madison Bear Garden and Mom’s Restaurant in Chico as well as other dining establishments in Northern California and Nevada. He is a member of the Community and Youth Alcohol Committee and is secretary of the Chico Rotary Club. His past community involvement includes board membership on the CSU, Chico Presidents Advisory Board, Downtown Chico Business Association, Chico Chamber of Commerce and the Boys and Girls Club of Chico.
Dr. Mark Schwabe, a local gynecologist, will serve as an ex-officio member due to his position as Enloe’s chief of staff elect. He is slated to become chief of staff in 2015. Dr. Schwabe’s other leadership roles at the medical center have included OB-GYN department chairman and Medical Staff secretary treasurer. Dr. Schwabe was commissioned as a Major in the U.S. Army in March 2011 and continues to serve in the Army Reserve. He has been in private practice in Chico since 1986 and now focuses exclusively on gynecologic care.
Enloe Medical Center’s new chief of staff is Charles Merriman, MD, an emergency room doctor. He joined the board in January 2011, as an ex-officio member due to his position as chief of staff elect. Dr. Attila Kasza, MD, whose appointment as chief of staff ended Dec. 31, was as an ex-officio member of the board since 2009. Dr. Kasza is a hospitalist at Enloe and has also served as Chief Medical Information Officer since 2011.
In another change to the Enloe Board of Trustees, the incoming secretary is Carol Huston, who joined the board in 2012. Huston is the director of the School of Nursing at California State University, Chico. The former secretary was Joseph Matthews, MD, who completed his board appointment Dec. 31. Dr. Matthews, a local general surgeon and colo-rectal surgeon, served as a physician trustee member since 2007 and as secretary since 2011. He has been a member of the Enloe Medical Staff since 1983, filling many leadership roles over the years, including chief of staff.
Tom Lando, chair of the Board of Trustees, noted the value that Drs. Kasza and Matthews played on the board, specifically mentioning their “intense focus on quality of care and patient-centered care. The hospital and community are better off for their service.”
Meanwhile, new Enloe Foundation Board of Directors member Chalmers is a local businessman who owned and operated a property management firm in Chico from 1981 until 2010. He has been an active supporter of the Chico community for more than 30 years through several organizations. These have included Chico Rotary Club, CSU Chico’s University Foundation and University Advisory Board, the Golden Valley Bank Board of Directors, and the Enloe Medical Center Board of Trustees. Chalmers endowed three educational scholarships and was recognized with the Boys and Girls Club’s Annual Humanitarian Award and by the CSU Chico College of Business as a Distinguished Alumnus.
The other new member, Dailey, has worked as a Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley since 2011, providing comprehensive financial planning and investment services for a diverse clientele. He previously served as Client Manager for the Premier Banking and Investments division of Bank of America, ultimately managing 17 banking centers in Northern California. Michael and his wife Kristy are natives of Chico, where they are raising their three children. They are passionate about the stewardship ethic and serving the local community.
Foundation Board member Renée McAmis completed her term Dec. 31. She is a community volunteer leader who joined the board in 2007 and had previously served as secretary, among other duties.
