Butte County EMS recommended for selection
as the exclusive ambulance provider in Butte County

CHICO, Calif., Aug. 30, 2012 – Butte County EMS, a joint venture between Enloe Medical Center Emergency Services and First Responder Emergency Medical Services, Inc, has been recommended to Sierra-Sacramento Valley Emergency Medical Systems (SSV-EMS) for selection as the exclusive 9-1-1 ambulance provider in Butte County. Bids from a total of four ambulance companies were reviewed on Aug. 22.

The recommendation was part of a request for proposal (RFP) from the Sierra-Sacramento Valley (SSV) EMS Agency to provide exclusive 9-1-1 ambulance services in Butte County, Calif. Butte County EMS was formed in January to provide integrated services to meet the requirements of the RFP from SSV. The Butte County EMS response to the RFP is available online.

In the next step of the process, SSV is scheduled to make its recommendation for approval to the JPA (Joint Powers Agency) Governing Board of Directors on Nov. 9. If the governing board approves the recommendation, contract negotiations will begin the following week, with contract implementation expected to occur July 1, 2013. Until the contract is implemented, Enloe and First Responder will continue their current operations.

The JPA Governing Board of Directors consists of a county supervisor from each of SSV’s member counties: Placer, Yuba, Yolo, Nevada, Sutter, Butte, Colusa, Shasta, Tehama and Siskiyou. SSV EMSis designated as the local EMS agency for each of the member counties under the authority of the Government Code, State of California.

For 34 years and 24 years respectively, Enloe Ambulance and First Responder have provided advanced pre-hospital care and transportation under the oversight and direction of the local EMS agency. They are part of the EMS chain of life in Butte County, composed of a well-defined network of agencies, including hospitals, law enforcement, fire departments, air ambulances and emergency departments, among others.
