Tri Counties Bank contributes $25,000 to Enloe Cancer Connections as part of “Partners in a Healthy Community” initiative

CHICO, Calif., April 22, 2010 – Tri Counties Bank announced yesterday its support of the Enloe Regional Cancer Center with a donation of $25,000 to Enloe’s Cancer Connections.  This follows the bank’s $125,000 donation in 2005 to the Enloe Foundation for the Century Project expansion.

“Whether it’s our own personal story, or that of a family member or a friend, cancer touches all of us in one way or another,” said Rick Smith, Tri Counties Bank President and CEO. “Tri Counties Bank is proud to join forces with Enloe Medical Center to support Enloe’s new affiliation with University of California San Francisco (UCSF), which brings academic medicine right here to Chico. This is yet another example of Enloe providing quality health care that is vital to keeping our community healthy.”

Smith presented the check for $25,000 on April 21 to Mike Wiltermood, President and CEO, Enloe Medical Center at a private celebration of business in Chico held at The Palms.

“We are thankful recipients of Tri Counties Bank’s generosity,” said Wiltermood. “Their gift shows a dedication to the health and well-being of fellow local community members that will directly benefit our patients and their families.”

The goal of Cancer Connections is to help patients understand the full impact of cancer and manage the social and psychological challenges that frequently come with this disease. The program will offer a case management team, volunteer patient advocates, support groups, a national-award-winning healing arts program, acupuncture services, and a library. Tri Counties Bank’s donation funds the program for an entire fiscal year.

Recently, Enloe became an affiliate of  the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. The benefits of an academic-community medicine partnership provide expedited access to UCSF’s cancer care specialists and joint tumor boards for discussing difficult cases and clinical trials available only at UCSF. The partners will also develop community education conferences with UCSF and Enloe staff, as well as cancer conferences for physicians and nurses.

Tri Counties Bank and Enloe Medical Center have also joined forces as “Partners in a Healthy Community” through various community programs that the bank sponsors and is helping Enloe to promote. The bank has underwritten the costs of refreshments for Enloe’s speaker series and is sponsoring various public events put on by Enloe, including the Speakers Series. The organizations have jointly created a television commercial that runs on KNVN-TV and KHSL-TV. The television stations recognize that a strong local bank and local hospital are important assets to the Chico community. “It is a natural fit that two of the largest businesses in Chico have joined together. Both services are vital to a thriving and growing economy in Chico,” said John Stall, General Manager of KHSL and KNVN.

In honor of Tri Counties Bank’s generous charitable gifts, the new Wall of Honor in the Main EntryLobby of Enloe’s Magnolia Tower will be named for the bank. The Wall of Honor will recognize all donors who give $1,000 and above to theEnloe Foundation.TriCounties Bank will behonored on the Wall asa Lifetime Patron. The bank will also be honored at the Enloe Foundation’s honoring the Spirit of Givingevent on May 18 at Skylake Gardens in Durham.
