Sweeney, Nettleton elected Emeritus Trustees for outstanding service

CHICO, Calif., Feb. 22, 2011–Enloe Medical Center’s Board of Trustees recently elected James P. Sweeney and Steve Nettleton as Emeritus Trustees in honor of their combined 38 years of service to the hospital.

An emeritus trustee is an elected position that can be granted to any individual who has completed a full term as a member of the Enloe Board of Trustees. An important part of Enloe’s leadership, these individuals may be invited to serve on committees or task forces and attend community events, and are kept informed of medical center developments. Emeritus trustees are not considered trustees or officers and do not vote or attend board meetings.

A longtime Enloe administrator, Sweeney served as Enloe’s President and Chief Executive Officer for 28 years, from November 1967 until November 1995. He was a member of the board from 1983 through 1995, serving on a great number of committees, including quality, financial affairs, education, government affairs and community affairs.

Nettleton dedicated 10 years of service to Enloe Medical Center. He served as a member of the board from 2000 to 2010, and was a member of a number of board committees. Nettleton also served as Chair of the Century Project Campaign and New Beginning Campaign, which raised money for the expansion project. Enloe awarded Nettleton the Circle of Champions Award in December 2008, recognizing commitment to one’s profession, volunteer leadership, family and service to the community.

“It is not often that the Enloe Medical Center Board of Trustees confers ‘Emeritus’ status, given to an individual who has served the hospital far and beyond what is generally expected of a trustee,” said Board Chair Matthews Jackson.“However, Mr. Nettleton and Mr. Sweeney are extraordinary citizens of our community who have provided tremendous stewardship for our medical center. They have been most generous on all levels. We are grateful for having had the benefit of their services for so many years.”

Other Emeritus Trustees elected by the Enloe Board of Trustees are Peter Magnusson, MD (2009); Joy Anderson Kimball (2005); the late Evelyn H. Morehead (1994); and the late Delbert Pilliard (1973).

The Enloe Board of Trustees is made up of community members who volunteer their time and service to govern the medical center.
