Chrysler Family of Chico honored with bell tower naming

CHICO, Calif., Nov. 17, 2010 – The Chrysler Family and Enloe Medical Center today announce that Lou and Jean Chrysler will be honored and remembered by the naming of the bell tower at Enloe Medical Center’s new patient tower. The bell tower will be called the Lou and Jean Chrysler Bell Tower is in tribute to the couple’s significant community service and philanthropic gifts to Enloe Medical Center and the entire community over the years. Jean, who died on Oct. 27, 2010, will be honored at a community service at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 at Newton Bracewell Funeral Home in Chico.

Jean was an avid supporter of Children’s Home Society, was a charter member of Chapter VB PEO, a member of Cosmos Club and a member of the Salvation Army Board. Her husband, Lou, was the founding Chairman of the Enloe Foundation, President of Chico Noon Rotary, President of the Chico Unified School District Board and served as president of the Board of Mid Valley Title. Lou died in December 2009.

For four generations the Chrysler Family has owned Modern Building Company. This local construction company built the Enloe Parking Structure, Enloe Regional Cancer Center, Enloe Outpatient Center, 1600 Esplanade, renovated the Sierra House at Enloe Medical Center and recently participated in the upgrade of Enloe’s Magnetic Resonance Imaging Suite. Community-wide, Modern Building’s projects include Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Hamilton High School and Favor Building at California Park.

“We areextremely honored to be a part of the family memorial to Lou and Jean Chrysler," said Enloe CEO Mike Wiltermood. "We join the rest of our community inexpressing our gratitude for the many wonderful contributions they have made to Chico and the surrounding area."

The bell tower came to be named after Lou and Jean Chrysler as part of Enloe’s naming opportunities program, in which donors can designate rooms, floors or clinical areas in recognition of their generous gift. Lou and Jean, who were major donors to the Enloe Century Project, had previously arranged for a naming opportunity, and the Chrysler family recently chose the location to name in their honor. To date, more than 100 donors have designated naming opportunities throughout the medical center.
