Enloe Medical Center Board of Trustees announces hospital leadership change
CHICO, Calif., March 19, 2009 – Enloe Medical Center’s Board of Trustees today announced that CEO Deborah Yancer, after much consideration and discussion with her family, has tendered her resignation to relocate to be closer to them. The board also announced that Enloe’s current Chief Operating Officer, Mike Wiltermood will serve as interim CEO.
“The events of the last year have been a poignant reminder of the importance of family,” Yancer said, “and I’ve decided to relocate to be closer to my children and grandchildren.” Yancer told the board she did not want her relocation and decision to explore new career opportunities to interfere with her CEO responsibilities: “I have too much respect for the Chico community and Enloe’s board, staff and employees to do otherwise. I appreciate the board’s support and understanding of my decision.”
Yancer’s last day will be April 3. Board member Marsha Martin will lead the search for a permanent CEO, which is expected to begin immediately.
“The board appreciates Debi’s desire to be closer to her family,” said Board Chairman Matthews Jackson. “We especially appreciate Debi’s candor in telling us of her interest in leaving. This allows us to effectively manage the transition to an interim CEO and begin our search for a permanent CEO. We wish Debi well.”
Jackson said the hospital’s senior management, medical staff and employees were informed of the news earlier today via in-person meetings, e-mail and voice-mail messages.
“The hospital has made great strides over the past two years under Debi’s leadership,” Jackson said. “She has been part of the organization’s accomplishments in the areas of restoring regulatory status, securing hospital expansion financing, achieving Joint Commission accreditation and reaching agreement on labor issues.”
We thank Debi for her service and dedication to Enloe and the Chico community,” Jackson added. “We expect to continue to build on Debi’s good work as we strive every day to provide our community with the excellent care that it expects and deserves.”
