Enloe Hospice offers volunteer training program

CHICO, Calif., Feb. 21, 2008 Enloe Medical Center's Hospice program is recruiting new volunteers to support patients and families. Compassionate volunteers from Oroville, Paradise, Magalia, Orland, and Willows are especially needed. Also needed are volunteers who can provide caregiver relief, transportation, massage and other healing arts, and administrative support.

Enloe's Hospice volunteer training classes are scheduled for March 4 through April 8 on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Interested parties should call Enloe Hospice at (530) 332-3180 or Enloe Volunteer Services at 332-4575 for more information and an application. An application and scheduled interview must be completed before classes start.

Enloe Hospice helps reduce the physical, psychological, social and spiritual suffering of terminally ill patients and their families. Hospice assists patients in maintaining self-worth and quality of life during the dying experience, and it supports families during periods of adjustment and the bereavement process.

As an integral part of the Enloe Hospice team, Hospice volunteers give care and support to terminally ill patients and their families.They may also perform clerical tasks in the Hospice office and assist with organizing meetings and special events.

Hospice Volunteers are chosen for their personal attributes and commitment to the hospice philosophy, which focuses on quality of life and improving patients’ comfort and support. Important qualities in a Hospice volunteer include compassion, good listening skills, and the ability to honor dignity, privacy and individuality.
